At CCRF, we do not do “day of” or “onsite” adoptions. The adoption process consists of an application, interview, home visit, and adoption fee. This process typically takes about three days to one week. All adopters must be 21 years of age or older. The adoption fee for adult dogs seven months of age and older is $300.00, and the fee for puppies six months and under is $350. Because our process includes a home visit, out of state applicants can be considered on a case-by-case basis only.
The first step of the adoption process is to submit an application. Please be as specific and detailed as possible with your answers, as they will help us help you make the best possible match.
Once an adoption application has been submitted, an adoption counselor will contact you via email to talk about the dog(s) that you are interested in and ask any follow-up questions. You should tell the adoption counselor what you are looking for in a companion so we can make the best match for you and your new dog.
While your application is in the process, you’re welcome to visit the shelter and meet the available dogs during our regular visiting hours of Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 5pm-7pm, and weekends noon-5pm. It’s a great idea to meet several dogs when you visit for several reasons. Often, dogs will have multiple applications being processed so it’s great to have a few good candidates in mind and sometimes you just might fall in love with a different dog than you expected.
If you have another dog(s) in your home, your counselor will coordinate with you to schedule a dog-to-dog introduction. Please DO NOT bring your resident dog(s) to the shelter without an appointment. To make introductions between dogs as smooth and stress-free as possible, we reserve a space and a staff member to facilitate the meeting. Please be sure your resident dog(s) are up to date on all regular vaccinations and preventative wellness care.
Our process concludes with a home visit. Once your application has been reviewed and approved, your counselor will schedule a mutually convenient time for your home visit. Please be sure to have all necessary supplies on hand for your home visit such as an appropriately sized crate, leash, collar, harness, grain-free food, treats, etc. The home visit is a “final sweep” to make sure you are ready to welcome your new buddy as well as point out any potential hazards that might have escaped your notice as you prepared for your new pup’s arrival. Usually, your counselor will bring your dog to your home visit and if all looks good, will complete the adoption with you at that time.
Please note that not all of our animals live at this animal shelter. In fact, many of our animals are housed in foster homes already living and learning with a family. Introductions with dogs living in foster homes are arranged after an adoption application has been submitted.
*Please also note that puppies under 6 months of age who have not completed their vaccine series can be seen by appointment only after an application is received, reviewed, and approved.
This is to minimize their risk of exposure to illness. Thank you for understanding.
We thank you for your interest in adding a CCR pup to your family and look forward to working with you to find a great match!
